Endless Summer® The Original

St. Paul, Minn. (Spring 2008) – Endless Summer The Original provides endless possibilities in the garden. This versatile shrub allows gardeners to express their creativity, by choosing different planting applications and changing flower color, all while producing armloads of beautiful flowers.
Endless Summer The Original is the first, repeat-flowering bigleaf hydrangea. Since its introduction in 2003, it has become a garden favorite for many reasons. First, it has the unique ability to bloom on old and new growth. That means you’ll have never-ending blooms all season long.

This hydrangea’s second show-stopping characteristic is that it is hardy to USDA Zone 4. Northern gardeners now have a mophead hydrangea that will bloom beautifully year after year. Southern gardeners need not fear late spring frosts, which previously have left them with little to no blooms in the summer months.

Endless Summer The Original features big, showy flowers that range in color from fresh blue to a lively pink, depending on the pH level of your soil. The color of hydrangea blossoms depends on the plants ability to absorb aluminum at different levels. Alkaline soils, (pH 6-7) will produce pink blooms. More acidic soil, (pH 5-5.8) will turn your blooms blue. Medium to deep green, disease-resistant foliage give the blossoms a beautiful backdrop. Endless Summer The Original is perfect as a stand-alone shrub, as border plants in the garden, for foundation plantings or as a container plant. The large blooms are perfect in a vase and can also be dried to create beautiful flower arrangements. Look for Endless Summer The Original and its sister plant, the new Endless Summer Blushing Bride in their distinctive blue pot. Both are available at better garden centers this spring.
